Counselling rules change every year. Answers below were checked on 8 October 2026.
Is NEET compulsory for MBBS admission in Karnataka?
Yes. A valid NEET UG qualification is required for MBBS and BDS in Karnataka, including management and NRI seats. KCET marks are not used for MBBS or BDS. Karnataka state seats are allotted by KEA using your NEET rank after KEA registration.
What is option entry in KEA counselling?
Option entry is the step where you list colleges and courses in your order of preference on the KEA portal. Seats are allotted by rank against this list in each round, so the order you choose directly changes your result.
How much does MBBS cost in Karnataka in 2026?
For 2026-27, government-college MBBS tuition is ₹64,350 a year. Government-quota seats in private colleges are about ₹1.54–1.57 lakh a year, and many private-category seats about ₹12 lakh a year. Hostel and other charges are extra.
Can students from other states get admission in Karnataka?
Yes, through the routes open to them: applicable private, deemed-university, management and NRI categories. Karnataka-reserved government categories have separate eligibility rules.
Is management quota admission legal in Karnataka?
Yes, where the seat category is officially available and the student meets the applicable eligibility and counselling requirements. For MBBS and BDS, NEET qualification still applies. Pay only through the documented college route, never an unofficial cash promise.
Which colleges can I get with my NEET PG rank in Karnataka?
It depends on branch, category, quota and counselling round. Compare previous branch-wise closing ranks, seat type and fee, then build safe, possible and stretch choices around your rank.
What documents are needed for KEA counselling?
Common documents include the relevant exam scorecard and admit card, Class 10 and 12 marksheets, identity proof, photographs, and category, study or domicile certificates where applicable. Check the current KEA notice for the exact course and quota.

What is the difference between government, management and NRI quota seats in MD/MS?
In private medical colleges, MD/MS seats are split into quotas. Government-quota seats carry government-fixed fees. Management and NRI quota seats carry higher fees, and NRI seats also require NRI eligibility documents. All of these seats are allotted through official counselling using your NEET PG rank. They are not sold directly by colleges.
Can I still get MD/MS with a NEET PG rank above 1 lakh?
Often, yes. It depends on your branch, budget and quota. Popular clinical branches close early in government quota. Management, NRI and deemed university seats, and some non-clinical branches, can stay open for higher ranks, especially in later rounds. We compare previous closing ranks for your branch and budget so you see realistic options.
What is the difference between MCC and KEA counselling for NEET PG?
MCC conducts All India Quota counselling for government colleges, along with deemed and central universities. KEA conducts Karnataka’s state counselling, which covers state quota seats in government colleges and seats in private colleges, including management and NRI seats. Many students register for both. Eligibility, deposits and seat-exit rules differ between them, so choices for each should be planned separately.
What is the stray vacancy round in NEET PG counselling?
It is the final round, held after the regular rounds, to fill seats that are still empty. Management, NRI and deemed university seats often appear in it. Rules are usually stricter, and you often cannot give up a seat allotted in this round. Only choose colleges you are sure you will join, and check the current year’s information bulletin.
